Our Library

Netaji Mahavidyalaya Central Library was started along with the establishment of the College in 1948 in order to cater the academic and research needs of the college family, comprising of faculty members, research scholars, students, and non-teaching staff members. Since then, the College Library has been evolved to live up to the expectations of its immediate clientele. It is one of the well-equipped libraries in this zone. The College is proud of its library system, which comprises of the Central Library and 23 Departmental Libraries. The central library can provide most of the facilities needed to quench the thirst of knowledge enhancement, to all the associated people. The college is grateful to those scholars and educationists of Arambagh locality and Bankura district who have contributed enormously to enrich the library variously. We are also thankful to UGC for the library for the grant that they have sanctioned for the growth of this library.

 

Our Collection

NM Central Library has developed an excellent collection of books, journals and non-book material in science, humanities, social sciences and management. Collection building – a core activity of the library, has been undergoing a transformation. However, most of books, both text and reference, are still preferred in print-only. The library collection comprising of books, journals, theses, reports, standards, pamphlets, Maps CD-ROM and other reading material as on March 2022 stands and The library is proud of various gift collections she received through the passage of time as follows :

The Central Library is housed in an independent, Three-storied building with a carpet area of over 8000 sq ft and is located towards North of Main building. The floor-wise distribution of services and resources in the Library is indicated below:

IT-infrastructure

NM Central Library is a part of the institute-wide network built around a fiber optic Ethernet with 12 PC are meant for users to access OPAC, databases, e-books, e-journals and other e-resources. The reading area in the library have been WI-Fi enabled to provide wireless access to the Internet.  Users are welcome to use their laptops in the library.

Renewal of Borrowed Books

Users can renew the books borrowed by them if the same books are not claimed by any other user. Book can be renewed either by bringing them to the library Circulation Counter

Important

Books Issue facility will be suspended if fine exceeds Rs. 100/- in case of Students and Rs. 200/- in case of faculty and staff.

 

Circulation Rules

  • General books are issued to all eligible members as per their entitlements.

 

Issue/Return Timing

  • General / Reference books – Monday-Friday: 10.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. and on.
  • Bound volumes of journals, loose issues, pamphlets and standards are issued from first floor issue counter on working days from 10.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M.

 

Library Membership

 

Photocopying

  • The Central Library offers photocopying service to all its members, walk-in users and others.
  • Only single copy of journal articles and book chapters are provided for private study and research purpose.
  • Photo Copy Charges are as follows
  • NM Staff and students   : Rs. 0.50 per page A4 size Rs. 1.00 per page A3 size
    10.30 am – 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm – 5.00 pm from Monday to Friday

 

Reference Service

Reference Service is an important service offered by the library. It helps users to make full use of the resources available in the library. It provides guidance in the use of library resources and services, assists in accessing e-journals, e-books, databases, multimedia sources etc and conducts library orientation programmes for new users.It also maintains a collection of reference books consisting of encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, technical data, almanacs, atlases, bibliographies, CD-ROMs, Audio and Video cassettes, etc.The Reference Section also houses videos and DVDs. The viewing facility is available to the students, staff and faculty of the Institute from 10.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on all working days.

 

Users Awareness Programme

The library takes an active part in the orientation programme organized by the institute for the benefit of new students in the beginning of academic year. They are taken around the library to familiarize them with various resources and services available for them. Training sessions are also organized whenever a new product or service is introduced.Any user desiring to know more about library resources and service or to learn how to use a particular resource like OPAC, e-journals, databases etc. should contact Incharge, Reference service.
